The senate shut down a block on the nomination of Andrew Hurwitz; clinching the needed 60 “yes” votes to get around the cloture vote on the nominee. Despite the support of Hurwitz’s Republican home-state senators, many Republicans
opposed Hurwitz nomination on grounds of judicial activism. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) “urged the chamber to vote down the nomination” and
insisted:
“We do not need to add another pro-defendant activist judge to the 9th Circuit or to any other court."
Later this week Andrew Hurwitz will likely receive the needed 50 votes to get a spot on the nation's busiest federal appeals court.
