Sotomayor on Judicial Impartiality

Sotomayor’s opening remarks included a claim that she “seek[s] to strengthen both the rule of law and faith in the impartiality of our justice system.” The second half of that claim will be particularly hard for her to defend given her statement at Berkeley (and elsewhere) that the aspiration to impartiality “denies the fact that we are by our experiences making different choices than others.”
