“The White House and the Justice Department made clear Friday what had been expected all along: Attorney General Eric Holder will not face criminal prosecution under the contempt of Congress citation passed by the U.S. House.”
Despite the recent contempt vote conducted by the House, President Obama's assertion of executive privilege will prevent a criminal prosecution from going any further. It’s interesting to note, however, that of the 21 Democrats who voted with Republicans to put Holder in civil contempt of Congress, 19 received campaign contributions from the National Rifle Association during the last two election cycles. It's apparent that many of these Democrats voted out of their own interest to
maintain good standing with the NRA and survive their election cycles
